The Ministry of Lands and Local Government is coming down hard on property owners who have a property elsewhere, and at the same time are illegally renting out flats in squatter settlements.
Permanent Secretary, Lieutenant Colonel Neumi Leweni today directed his staff to dismantle four houses at Jittu Estate in Raiwaqa which all belonged to one particular person.
Ministry official, Fesaitu Mesulame said they have been carrying out investigations on the property and found out that the owner of the property also had a property in Ba.
The house was bought in 1983 by Naresh Chand who issued an eviction notice to the tenants, Kuldip Singh and Kiran Lata, who later took the letter to People's Community Network.
PCN Director Semiti Qalowasa then reminded Chand that he is not allowed to evict the tenants from the property as it is the state land, and that he already had another property and a vehicle in Ba.
A total of four houses will be dismantled from Jittu Estate while another one will be from Narere.
