Ministry calls for public awareness of H1N1

Please keep up-to-date on the H1N1 virus by listening to the media.

This is the advice to the general public from the Health Ministry especially on the number of confirmed cases of H1N1, which has now reached 10.

Spokesperson Iliesa Tora said out of the four new cases, three are children under 8 with these cases being confined to the Nadi area.

These four new cases are all from Nadi with all having recent travel history.

Tora added there have been no hospital admissions and all the people with the virus are stable and being quarantined at their homes.

He said public health teams in the areas from which the patients are from, have been constantly checking to see if there are any other people who may be sick after close contact with the confirmed cases.

Reiterating precautionary measures for people to take: These are always wash your hands frequently with water and soap, avoid touching your face, don't shake hands and avoid kissing or hugging sick people.  

When you cough or sneeze, cover your nose and mouth with tissue or your hand and wash your hands afterwards, and if you have the cough or runny nose don't go to work and don't send your kids to school if they are ill, and also see a doctor if you think you might have H1N1.
