The Ministry of Agriculture said it has increased efforts to try and ease the local rice production as the global shortage of rice is expected to continue to affect consumers in the months ahead.
Interim Minister Joketani Cokanasiga said they have set up new farms to try and find short term solutions to the global rice problem affecting Fiji.
Rewa Rice of Fiji Limited Chairman Hari Pal Singh said it is time to increase such activities and they are stand ready to assist.
Meanwhile, the northern division is currently faced with a major shortage of rice as supermarkets have run out of stock of rice.
Flour Mills of Fiji confirmed that they will start milling the imported rice tomorrow and it will be ready to be delivered to the suppliers by Wednesday.
