Methodist Church bans smoking for ministers, urges reduced kava consumption

All Methodist Church of Fiji and Rotuma ministers, whether ordained or probationary, must refrain from smoking and reduce their consumption of kava.

This directive has been confirmed by the President of the Methodist Church, Reverend Dr. Semisi Turagavou, who emphasized that smoking is prohibited, whether on church premises or elsewhere.

Reverend Turagavou says this advice applies to all church ministers, including deaconesses.

He says anyone who continues to disregard this directive will face disciplinary action.

He also highlighted that the consumption of kava should be minimized and restricted to church related occasions.

The President of the Methodist Church also expressed concern that many ministers and pastors are spending excessive time and money on kava, neglecting their responsibilities to the church and their families.

Reverend Dr. Turagavou emphasized that the church is a dynamic entity, requiring collaboration as the body of Christ and he urged all stewards, ministers, pastors, lay preachers, and confirmed church members to work together to ensure the growth of the church.

He adds the theme for the church for 2025 and 2026 is Moving Christ Church to another level.
