Acting Permanent Secretary for Health Doctor James Fong says our border quarantine measures have been amended to allow the transfer of essential items throughout the Pacific on humanitarian grounds.

This comes as 4.481 tonnes of essential medical supplies donated by China's Alibaba Group through the Jack Ma Foundation, which was flown from Fiji to assist Papua New Guinea in their fight against COVID-19.

Fiji Airways has confirmed their flight was chartered by the World Food Programme.

Dr Fong says World Food Programme mediated the transfer of the goods through an initiative for borders to be opened for humanitarian support throughout the Pacific.
