Luveni elected as Speaker of Parliament for second term while Bhatnagar elected as Deputy Speaker
Doctor Jiko Luveni elected as Speaker of Parliament and Veena Bhatnagar elected as Deputy Speaker of Parliament

Doctor Jiko Luveni has been elected as the Speaker of Parliament for the second term while Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Veena Bhatnagar has been elected as the Deputy Speaker.

Doctor Luveni was nominated for the Speaker’s position by the government side.

Government Whip and Assistant Minister for Employment, Youth and Sports Alvick Maharaj nominated Doctor Luveni.

Opposition Whip Lynda Tabuya nominated SODELPA candidate Tanya Waqanika.

Doctor Luveni was elected as Speaker after getting 27 votes.

Waqanika got 24 votes.

For the Deputy Speaker’s position, the government side nominated Veena Bhatnagar while the opposition side nominated Adi Litia Qionibaravi.        

Bhatnagar was elected after getting 27 votes while Qionibaravi got 24 votes.
