The Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Local Government, Dimity Fifer says they are taking the matter seriously where the official driver for Minister of Local Government was allegedly found with smoking apparatus in his hotel room and also broke curfew regulations.

Rajneel Kumar of Sakoca, Tamavua allegedly failed to stop at a checkpoint in Martintar during curfew hours on Wednesday and was later arrested at a hotel in Nadi.

Fifer says they are waiting to receive the charge sheet from police and due process will follow with an internal investigation.

She says in this case, the official driver for the Minister is facing more than one charge which are serious in nature and they will take action based on the Public Service Commission Disciplinary Guidelines.

Fifer says this will be done on Monday.

Rajneel Kumar appeared in the Nadi Magistrates Court today and has been remanded in custody.

Kumar has been charged with a count each of unlawful possession of controlled equipment, failure to comply orders, failure to obey traffic direction and dangerous driving.

It has been established that Kumar was driving a government vehicle registration, GQ 107 when he failed to stop at the checkpoint.

Police Prosecutor, Parmesh Chand objected to bail and told the court that there has been a serious breach of trust where a government vehicle is involved and the actions show disrespect towards law enforcement officers who were manning the checkpoint.

Magistrate, Peni Dalituicama has adjourned the case to next Friday for bail ruling.
