Lifeline Fiji to continue to provide hope to Fijians in their darkest moments
Officer In Charge at Lifeline Fiji Jeremaia Merekula.

Officer In Charge at Lifeline Fiji, Jeremaia Merekula says they will continue to provide hope and help to people in their darkest moments.

He says an average of 105 Fijians complete suicide every year.

The youngest victim is a 7-year-old.

Merekula says every 36 hours a Fijian attempts to complete suicide and they need help to deal with any issues they are facing.

He says help is always available for Fijians going through a crisis in their life and all they have to do is call their 24/7 toll-free crisis helpline 1543.

Merekula says they will listen to whatever you are going through.

He also says males make the highest number of people completing suicide every year.

Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre Coordinator Shamima Ali says they had to set-up a referral helpline for men because of COVID-19.

She says of the 800 calls they received, 300 were men.

Bank South Pacific Fiji Group has made a donation of $5,000 each to the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre and Lifeline Fiji to help continue to deliver the vital services they provide.
