Discussions on the 100-bed super-speciality hospital have been going well with India’s High Commission to Fiji, Suneet Mehta, acknowledging the government of Fiji for the allocation of land where the hospital will be built.
Mehta says they are looking forward to finalizing the MoU that will enable them to build this hospital.
He says this project is dear not only to the hearts of the leaders but also to the people because this is a project of significant importance, not only for Fiji but for the entire Pacific.
The High Commissioner added that the hospital will enable Fiji to transform into a hub of medical tourism.
According to the High Commissioner, the 100-bed super-speciality hospital was announced by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi in PNG in May 2024, when he attended the FIPIC Summit, in which Prime Minister of Fiji, Sitiveni Rabuka, also participated.
Assistant Minister for Health Penioni Ravunawa says the first step is done as the land has been allocated by the Ministry of Lands.
He says because the whole project is under the government of India, they will do their own due diligence, then the process of identifying the contractor and also building the hospital.
