Labasa man allegedly raped 13yr-old stepdaughter then sewed up her genitals

A 33-year-old Labasa man is now facing charges for allegedly raping his 13-year-old stepdaughter and sewing up her genitals.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions says the man is also charged with raping his niece.

He has been charged with 5 counts of rape and 1 count of act with intent to cause grievous harm.

The DPP’s Office confirms that a 20-year-old secondary school prefect is also charged with allegedly smashing a ceramic bowl on a 16-year-old student.

The alleged incident occurred in a secondary school in Taveuni.

The Office of the DPP confirms that 77 people were charged with a total of 73 counts of separate incidents in June.

There were 3 juveniles charged with aggravated robbery offences.

There was 1 incident where a Chinese national was allegedly robbed of $1,200 cash at knife point.

A 56-year-old man was charged with two counts of attempted murder. He allegedly struck his de facto wife and stepdaughter with a cane knife.

There was one incident where a 59-year-old bus driver was charged with dangerous driving causing death.

He was also charged with dangerous driving causing grievous harm and reckless driving.

A 41-year-old woman died and 3 other victims sustained injuries as a result.

There were four incidents of assault causing actual bodily harm. One of these four incidents was a domestic matter where a 23-year-old woman was charged with allegedly burning her 9 year old daughter with a hot iron.

There was one incident where 5 men were charged with act with intent to cause grievous harm after they attacked a police officer who tried to stop an aggravated robbery.

In one of the aggravated burglary offences, the accused allegedly set fire to a building which caused damage of $42,000.

There were 3 individuals who were charged separately with one count each of giving threatening statements at the airport.

Two individuals each informed security officers that their luggage contained bombs while another accused, an Australian national, informed a security officer that she had a gun in her bag.
