The fire that claimed the life of a woman in Jittu Estate in Raiwaqa last Sunday is believed to be an arson and suicide case.

National Fire Authority CEO Puamau Sowane says the information gathered on the ground from their 10-year-old son is that the fire started after a difference between the couple.

Sowane says they are very saddened about the unfortunate incident at Jittu Estate.

He adds they received the call for an emergency around 2.42pm on Sunday, and immediately at 2.43pm, a team, including two fire trucks and eight firefighters, was dispatched to the scene.

The CEO says their team arrived at the scene around 2.48pm, however, the house was fully engulfed in flames.

He says the only thing that they could do is to try and contain the fire.

Sowane says the team managed to prevent the fire from spreading.

He adds they have completed their investigation on the ground and are compiling their report and trying to finalize the actual cause of the fire.
