Claims by the New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters that majority of the people in Fiji support the sanctions imposed on Fiji by New Zealand have been rubbished by Fiji's Interim Prime Minister.
Commodore Frank Bainimarama said the sanctions are hindering Fiji's growth and development and it is worrying to hear Peters say that people have told them to continue with the sanctions.
However, Peters said the sanctions will continue.
He also revealed that political party leaders who met with the Ministerial Contact Group last week supported the sanctions imposed on Fiji.
Peters said he knows that the sanctions are hurting Fiji and it will only be lifted after democratic elections are held.
