The Interim Government and Amalgamated Telecom Holdings Limited today signed a Deed which will see the industry open up for new competitors and increase the competition amongst current operators.
Vodafone Fiji, Telecom Fiji Limited and FINTEL have signed new telecommunication licensing deals and Interim Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khiayum highlighted that the licenses will be for a 15 year period.
Sayed-Khaiyum has also stressed that the exclusive licenses which the current carriers hold will end in the next 18 months, whereby new competitors or existing companies may venture into new markets.
Present also at the signing ceremony were Interim Prime Minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama and Interim Tourism and Communication Minister, Tom Rickets.
The deed was signed by ATH Chairman Kanti Lal Tappoo, Telecom Chairman Felix Anthony, FINTEL Chairman Aisake Taito and representatives from the Vodafone board.
