The Interim Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has today raised serious concern over the recent statements made by the Fiji Law Society President, Dorsami Naidu on the retirement of Chief Justice, Daniel Fatiaki.
Sayed-Khaiyum has pointed out that the offer of settlement with Justice Fatiaki was made by Fatiaki's lawyers and it was not initiated by the interim government to try to settle the matter, rather than going ahead with the tribunal process.
He said it is disappointing that wild allegations continue to be made by Naidu in the local and international media.
Sayed-Khaiyum also said there is nothing sinister about the dropping of the charges and the 275 thousand dollars payout to Fatiaki.
Meanwhile the Fiji Law Society President has labelled the actions taken by the interim government against former Chief Justice Daniel Fatiaki as a joke.
Dor Sami Naidu said they are concerned at the manner in which Justice Fatiaki was treated.
However, Naidu confirmed that he will attend the next meeting of the Judicial Services Commission where the appointment of the Chief Justice is expected to be discussed.
Naidu also spoke to Radio NZ earlier this week, saying the interim government has dropped the charges against Justice Fatiaki due to the international pressure and he thanked the lawyers from Australia and NZ for their continuous support.
