Minister of Public Works, Ro Filipe Tuisawau

The Tamavua Water Treatment Plant does not have the capacity to cater for Suva, which is why the Viria Water Treatment Plant was built to sustain water supply, and negotiations have been ongoing to buy and install extra pumps to help solve the problem.

This has been shared by Minister of Public Works, Ro Filipe Tuisawau.

Tuisawau says he called a meeting with the Water Authority of Fiji leadership and Board members and visited the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant.

He says their short term measure is to sort out the clarifiers and equipment to filter the water to contain the water crisis and the long term measure is to connect the pipeline from Viria to high elevated areas such as Tamavua, Sakoca and Khalsa.

Tuisawau says the WAF board has approved the new project and they will be making an announcement soon.

Thousands of residents in Tamavua, Tacirua, Samabula and Lami face water cuts frequently, and are tired of these ongoing disruptions.

They say they are tired of hearing that there is a plan, the budget is already there, and turbidity is always causing disruptions.

The residents want the government to ensure that WAF finds an immediate solution.
