Infrastructure development taking place in rural and maritime areas to counter food security issues – Seruiratu
Sawaieke village, Gau

The government is taking a proactive approach towards food security by focusing on developing roads and jetties in rural and maritime areas to allow easy trade of goods and services.

This is according to Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Inia Seruiratu who says it is very important to connect the rural and maritime resources to urban areas.

Huge focus is being put on Gau, Taveuni, Moala and Kadavu.

Seruiratu adds the Ministry is focusing on strengthening the rural and maritime economies as they contribute significantly towards Fiji’s economy.

The Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management has been mandated to implement a wide range of socioeconomic activities to support Government’s goals of growing the economy and raising living standards.

The Ministry was allocated $15 million in the 2022-2023 National Budget.
