India gained its independence on the 15th of August 1947 and today they are celebrating their 77th Independence Day.

Today reminds every Indian about the dawn of a new beginning, the beginning of an era of deliverance from the clutches of British colonialism of more than 200 years.

The iconic Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva was lit up in vibrant Tricolor to mark the 77th Independence Day of India.

Meanwhile, the Indian High Commissioner P.S. Karthigeyan also observed a gathering to pay tribute to those who lost their lives during India’s partition.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the nation in today's big celebration in the Capital City, Delhi.

Around 1,800 special guests are invited to take part in the celebration to honour freedom warriors who gave their lives in the battle for independence.

Modi will also deliver his 10th consecutive speech later today.
