We don't always have to wait for government to step in, but we should be taking the initiative to help reduce the already alarming number of reported suicide cases.
Psychiatrist Dr Selina Kuruleca said the 88 suicide cases reported for the first five months is a concern, and if people do not make the effort to deal with the problem now, then the number will surely increase.
Dr Kuruleca said research has shown, three main issues were highlighted which directly contributed to the high number of suicide cases.
Figures gathered from the Fiji Police and the Health Ministry show that 120 persons committed suicide in 2007, and what is even more worrying is that 2008 figures rose by 98 with 218.
We are just five months into 2009, and the suicide cases for this year is already 88.
