The Immigration Department has uncovered an education scam after a person was stopped at the Nadi International Airport trying to enter the country to study at a bogus university set up via the internet.
In an exclusive interview with Fijivillage this afternoon Immigration Director Commander Viliame Naupoto revealed that they had managed to establish that the university, which the students from India claim to be enrolled at, does not exist. Naupoto said they have also established that several other people have fallen victim to the education scam and enrolled at the bogus university.
Commander Naupoto said they uncovered the scam after discovering that a student from India had come to Fiji without proper documentation.
He said the website offers many lucrative deals to lure people to enroll at the University.
The matter is expected to be referred to the police for investigations to track down those responsible for the education scam.
