The Interim Government and the Bus Operators Association reached an agreement this afternoon regarding bus operators concerns of rising fuel costs.
Interim Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said in a press conference that the Interim Government will now provide a direct subsidy of 21.9 percent to Bus Operators that will be based on monthly revenue reported by each Bus Operator.
Sayed-Khaiyum also confirmed that bus fares will not be increased and the Bus Operators Association will start providing concessions that were previously available to special groups such as senior and retired citizens.
According to Khaiyum, the Land Transport Authority and Ministry of Transport will start a review of the bus industry in total.
