The Interim Finance Minister has stressed that he supports a non race based electoral system for the next elections.
Mahendra Chaudhry said while discussions will be held in the National Council for Building a Better Fiji to have a One Man One Vote System, the Fiji Labour Party fully supports the idea to change the voting system.
In the consultation document for the preparation of a People's Charter, questions are raised on whether the current electoral system should be changed to make it fair to reflect the number of votes each party receives.
It also raises the question on whether the existing constitutional arrangements, especially for communal voting rolls and mandatory multi party system of government, may have aggravated communal and religious conflicts at the political level.
