Huge waves surprise Coral Coast villagers
If you live near the coastal areas you need to secure your belongings now as huge waves are expected again later tonight and tomorrow morning during the next high tide.

The Nadi Weather Office said the next high tide is at 9pm tonight and 9am tomorrow.

Duty forecaster said a High pressure system situated in the South West of the country coincided with huge waves around 8am today as some villagers in the Coral Coast were caught by surprise with huge waves coming close to their homes.

Those who were living near the beach side in Korolevu, Vatukarasa, Malevu and also the Outrigger on the Lagoon resort saw huge waves in their areas.

No houses or roads were damaged.

Motorists are advised to take precaution as debris are scattered all over on the queens highway at Vatua village.

Residents of Serua Island also saw huge waves this morning.

The weather office said more huge waves are expected as a damaging heavy swells warning remains in force for Yasawa and Mamanuca, Southwest Vitilevu, Kadavu passage, Southern Lau waters and Koro sea.

Meanwhile, Dismac Director Pajiliai Dobui said that this sort of tide is called spring tide and it is a worry when heavy rain together with the tides brings in flash flooding.
