People who are manufacturing and selling homebrew will have to face the full brunt of the law.
This is the stern warning from the Director of Police Operations, SSP Waisea Tabakau who stressed that these manufacturers and suppliers are the root causes of violent robberies and other criminal activities around the country.
Speaking to Fijivillage News, Tabakau said that most youths tend to consume Homebrew because it’s cheap and can be bought at anytime of the day. He said these very youths then commit most serious and violent crimes.
SSP Tabakau has revealed that police are closely monitoring all those who are involved in these illegal business and they are under surveillance.
Meanwhile, police in the last few days raided three places and confiscated more than two thousand litres of homebrew. According to police the homebrew confiscated from all these places were be sold to people at a much cheaper price.
The first raid was carried out at Tamavua-I-Wai last week while the second raid was conducted at a house in Nadrea on Friday night.
The third raid was carried this morning at a shop in Narewa, Nadi where police confiscated more than 300 litres of homebrew. The shop owner is also alleged to have been selling pornographic CD's to children.
Police has also established that the shop owner did not had a license to sell liquor.
All the homebrew confiscated in the raids have been sent to Koronivia Research station for analysis.
