Heavy rain warnings from severe thunderstorms now in force for Southeastern Viti Levu and Southwestern Vanua Levu

A heavy rain warning from severe thunderstorms is now in force for the interior and Southwestern parts of Viti Levu including Nadi to Sigatoka and the Coral Coast and Southwestern Vanua Levu including Labasa.

The Nadi Weather Office says severe thunderstorms are expected to produce heavy rain which may lead to flash flooding of low-lying areas in the next few hours.

They say a trough of low pressure with associated clouds and rain remains slow-moving over Fiji and it is expected to gradually drift Northwards and affect the group until tomorrow.

The Weather Office says due to the unpredictable nature of thunderstorms, some locations within the warning area may experience little to no impact, while others could face severe conditions.

They are urging members of the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions as conditions can change rapidly.

Thunderstorm activity and associated heavy rainfall are expected to persist until later in the evening or overnight.
