Heavy rain warning remains with possibility of flash flooding

A heavy rain warning remains in force for the Fiji group and heavy rain may lead to flash flooding in low lying areas.

Severe tropical cyclone Pam was located near 21.2 south, 169.5 east or about 910 kilometers west-northwest of Nadi at 3pm today.

The cyclone is moving south at 25 kilometers per hour.

However, the associated active rain bands is expected to affect the group till tomorrow.

Occasional rain, heavy at times and squally thunderstorms is expected today.

A strong wind warning also remains in force for land areas of the western half of Viti Levu, Yasawa and Mamanuca group, Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Kadavu, Lau and Lomaiviti group.

A strong wind warning also is in force for land area and waters of Rotuma.

Strong northerly winds are expected with average speeds of 45 to 60km/hr and momentary gusts to 80km/hr.
