Heavy rain and strong winds to affect Fiji Group
Periods of heavy rain and strong winds is expected to affect the Fiji Group from later today as Tropical Cyclone Lusi approaches closer to the group.

The Nadi Weather Office advises people to take all the necessary precautions as Fiji will feel the effects of Tropical Cyclone.

At 6am Cyclone Lusi was located about 1,070 kilometres West North West of Nadi and is slow moving.

Director Alipate Waqaicelua confirms that the centre of Tropical Cyclone Lusi is still located over the Northern parts of Vanuatu.

Waqaicelua said it is still a Category 1 and is intensifying.

It is expected to be upgraded to a Category 2 cyclone later today but is still expected to be closer to Vanuatu.

He said heavy rain is expected to affect the group from today.

Waqaicelua said people will also start experiencing strong winds from later today.

Strong northwest winds with average speeds of 45 to 55km/hr and momentary gusts of up to 90km per hour is expected over Yasawa and Mamanuca Group, Viti Levu, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands.

He added they are keeping a close watch on the system as they have seen forecast tracks change in the past.
