Expect continuous heavy rain in many parts of the country from tomorrow going into this weekend, which could also lead to flash flooding.

The Nadi Weather Office confirms that the country is expected to experience unsettled weather this weekend as an active trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain drifts over Fiji from the north.

Director, Ravind Kumar says a tropical disturbance lies to the far east of Fiji, near Niue, and moving south.

Although the disturbance remains to the far east of Fiji, the associated active trough of low pressure is expected to lie to the north and start affecting the northern and eastern parts of Fiji from tomorrow.

The Weather Office says in anticipation of the trough moving over Fiji, the northern and eastern parts of the country can expect increasing cloud cover from today with showers increasing  to rain and becoming frequent and heavy at times from Friday night.

Rain is expected to gradually spread to other parts of the country from Saturday and may continue into early next week.

The Weather Office confirms that the active trough has a  potential to produce rainfall exceeding 100mm in 24 hours in  some parts of the country.

Localised heavy rain may lead to flash flooding, initially over low lying areas.

Kumar also says that as we are moving from wet to dry season, huge swings in weather is likely over a short period of time.

We will closely monitor the weather situation. Stay with us for updates.
