Heavy rain alert remains in force for Fiji

Heavy rain alert remains in force for Fiji

A heavy rain warning is in force for the Eastern half of Viti Levu, Yasawa group, Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Lau and Lomaiviti group.

The Nadi Weather Office says a heavy rain alert remains in force for the rest of Fiji.

A trough of low pressure remains slow moving over Fiji.

Another trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain just to the North of Fiji is gradually drifting South towards the group.

It is expected to start affecting the northern parts of the country from tonight and spread to the rest of the country tomorrow.

This means that more rain is heading our way in the week ahead which is expected to become frequent and heavy at times with squally thunderstorms.

Expect continuous heavy rain and thunderstorms from tonight.

The Weather Office says people are advised to remain alert as localised heavy rain over a short period of time can cause flash  flooding in low lying areas given the ground is extremely  saturated and river levels remain elevated.
