Fijians aged 12 years and above living in the maritime islands in the Eastern Division will now be able to access Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines at their local health facilities.

This is after the Ministry of Health began the successful deployment of Pfizer vaccines to the Eastern Division.

Last week, the vaccines were delivered to Vanua Balavu, Cicia and Lakeba Islands.

Since the arrival of the Pfizer vaccines, the Ministry has distributed the vaccines to the Central, Western and Northern divisions with strict adherence to the recommended protocols of cold chain storage.

In acknowledging the support of the health partners, Minister for Health Dr. Ifereimi Waqainabete says ensuring that lifesaving COVID-19 vaccines reach every eligible Fijian, is critical for the protection and wellbeing of all Fijians.

Dr Waqainabete says every time he sees the death statistics since the virus entered the country, he is reminded of the many children, grandchildren, parents, grandparents, siblings and neighbours who have lost their loved ones unexpectedly from this killer disease.

He adds now that we have more vaccines available, and easily accessible closer to our homes, he encourages people to make the safe choice.

The Ministry of Health acknowledges the continuous support from UNICEF, World Health Organization, and the Government of Australia, New Zealand and the United States for providing access to these lifesaving COVID-19 vaccines.
