Health Minister launches clean-up campaign for dengue fever

A clean-up campaign was launched today by the Health Minister to prevent further outbreaks of dengue fever as the rainy season has started which will last till April next year.

Minister for Health and Medical Services, Jone Usamate said it is still fresh in our memories how Fiji most recently had a big dengue outbreak which started in November last year.

He said more than 28,000 people were positively diagnosed with dengue virus by end of the dengue outbreak this year.

Usamate said due to the seriousness of the type 3 dengue fever virus, 14 deaths were recorded throughout Fiji.

Usamate said these mosquitoes that spread dengue virus mainly bites at dawn and dusk.

Usmate said the main message for the people of Fiji is to search and destroy everything that holds stagnant water.
