Grandfather in a state of shock

A grandfather is in a state of shock after his 17-year-old granddaughter was hacked to death in Malawai, Dreketi, last night.

One of the family members Bas Deo said the deceased had gone to deliver dinner to her grandfather when she was attacked with a cane knife.

She received injuries to her neck and hands.

The grandfather was working as a security officer on a farm and did not know that he would be seeing her for the last time.

Deo said they were informed about the incident by one of the family members who heard the teenager screaming.

He said the girl was some 100 meters away from the home and by the time they reached the scene, it was too late.

Deo said the deceased was employed and was supposed to get married in December this year adding that they will miss her as she was a well behaved teenager.

The deceased was the only child and for the past three years she was being looked after by the grandfather.

The incident has shocked the whole community.

Meanwhile, police confirmed a 19-year-old suspect was found dead around midday today.

Police investigation is underway.
