Govt vehicle driver arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol

A government vehicle driver has been arrested for a case of drunk driving yesterday in Makoi.

Police say following a tip-off, Nasinu Police officers intercepted the government vehicle in Makoi as the driver was alleged to have been driving under the influence of alcohol.

They say he was tested and was found to have been in breach of the prescribed limit.

Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Sakeo Raikaci says the vehicle was seized and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry concerned was informed.

He says traffic officers conducting snap checks will also be carrying out necessary checks on government vehicle drivers including police vehicles to ensure the government assets are not being abused and used for unauthorised runs.

The Fiji Police Force says there is no exception to the rule of law.
