Government drivers will face disciplinary action for reckless driving and vehicle misuse – Prof. Prasad

Government drivers will face disciplinary actions including surcharges, suspension, and termination for any reckless driving or misuse of government vehicles.

This has been highlighted by the Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad this morning following recent incidents where government vehicles were involved in road accidents this week due to reckless driving.

Professor Prasad says the government is introducing a toll-free complaints hotline, 1526, for the public to report any reckless driving or overspeeding involving Government vehicles.

He says the Government is deeply concerned about this issue and a strict warning is being issued to all Government drivers to ensure full compliance with road safety regulations and the responsible use of Government vehicles.

Prof.Prasad says the Permanent Secretaries and transport officers have been directed to closely monitor drivers’ behaviour and vehicle usage.

Prof.Prasad adds to enhance accountability, the Ministry of Finance will continue providing daily speed reports to respective Ministries, as all Government-leased vehicles are GPS-tracked with real-time speed monitoring.

He stresses immediate improvements in drivers' behaviour are expected to minimize road accidents, protect public safety, and uphold the integrity of Government operations.
