Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s head coach Ben Gollings will be out to prove himself as Fiji goes into the Cape Town 7s tournament this weekend.

Gollings last led the team to victory at the 7s Rugby World Cup in South Africa in September last year.

Fiji did not manage to win any tournament in the 2022-2023 HSBC Sevens Series and now pressure is building on Gollings to redeem himself this weekend.

While there is talk of Gollings warned to win at least one tournament on the current leg to retain his job, fijivillage News has been told that the Fiji Rugby Union’s main KPI for Gollings is to win the gold medal in the Paris Olympics next year.

Meanwhile, the pools for the Cape Town 7s this weekend are out with the Fiji Men’s side in pool B alongside Dubai 7s cup finalist Argentina, France and Spain.

In Pool A, Dubai 7s winners South Africa will be up against Ireland, the USA and Great Britain while New Zealand heads Pool C alongside Samoa, Australia and Canada.

In the Women’s category, the Fijiana 7s side is in pool A with Dubai 7s Women’s winners Australia, Japan and Spain.

New Zealand is in Pool B alongside Ireland Brazil and Great Britain while France is in Pool C with Canada, the USA and South Africa. The fixtures for Cape Town 7s are yet to be confirmed.
