With four days remaining for the World Cup Sevens to kick off in Dubai, Ratu Semi Saukawa who is known as Semisi Naevo in the rugby circle, is hoping to create history for Fiji.
If Fiji wins, Naevo will be one of only a few players to have successfully defended the Melrose Cup for the first time.
This time Naevo is going as the co-captain of the Digicel Fiji Sevens team and it is also his second World Cup Sevens outing.
Naevo said it was a special moment when he was announced co-captain.
And Ratu Semisi Saukawa, the co-captain's namesake has today revealed that working in a cane field during his young days has taught his nephew to strive for the best in life.
Ratu Saukawa, who is Semisi Naevo's uncle, said the Man Mountain started off as a cane cutter in the burning west and perseverance has paid off for him.
Ratu Semisi also added that the family will definitely be cheering for him.
Naevo started his rugby career when he represented his school Nadi College from 1989 - 1991.
He comes from a family of players with his father Joeli Lesavua and his brothers Manoa and Apenisa Naevo also wearing the national jumper.
Semisi Naevo currently plays the NEC club in Japan.
