Former school teacher sentenced to 14yrs imprisonment for rape

A 35-year-old former school teacher has been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment after he was convicted of four counts of rape and nine counts of sexual assault.

The non‑parole period is 13 years.

Judge Justice Salesi Temo stated that the rape of children is a serious matter.

He adds that there was a serious breach of trust.

Justice Temo said that the former teacher had preyed on the victims and he should not complain when his liberty is taken away from him.

The former teacher had committed these offences on nine students between 1st January 2010 to 31st October 2013 while serving as a teacher in a school in Nasinu.
