USP confirms no directive issued

Honorary member of the Association of USP Staff Elizabeth Fong and former Biology Lecturer and former President of the Association of USP Staff (AUSPS) Dr Tamara Osborne-Naikatini are concerned that they have been denied entry to the campus, however, the USP confirms that no such directives have been sent out to deny Fong and Dr Osborne-Naikatini entry to the campus.

This is after Fong received information over the weekend that the Chief Security Officer had verbally informed security officers at USP that they were to be denied access to the campus.

Fong says she can confirm that the security officers have said that they would not take action until they received this directive in writing as it deals with legal issues.

She says they were allowed to enter the campus, but when they questioned the security officer they were referred to the security officer told them that he did not know about the directive from the Chief of Security.

She adds that they are very concerned as citizens, as alumni, and Union members, that this kind of discussions are taking place at the University.

Dr Tamara Osborne-Naikatini says one of the issues with not being able to get access into the campus is that they cannot find the reading materials that is only available at the school’s library.

She says this includes materials such as the archival Pacific literature and Pacific-based literature. Dr Osborne-Naikatini says being denied entry to the campus will also affect her students.
