A flood alert is still in force for different parts of the country after continuous heavy rain last night.

The Nadi Weather Office confirms this morning that a flood alert remains in force for the low lying areas, small streams and areas adjacent to all major rivers in Vanua Levu and Taveuni.

There is also a flood alert for areas adjacent to downstream of Waimanu to Nausori Town, Nabukelevu to Navua Town and Vatukacevaceva to Rakiraki Town.

The heavy rain being experienced in some areas is caused by a trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain that remains slow moving over the eastern and northern parts of Fiji.

The Nadi Weather Office says this trough of low pressure is expected to affect the country till later this evening.

A heavy rain warning is also in force for Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Lau and Lomaiviti Group.
