An investigation is now underway following the tragic death of a four-year-old boy in a house fire in Vugalei, Lami earlier today.
The boy was at home with a relative and an older brother when the fire started and attempts to locate him once the flames engulfed their home were unsuccessful.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirms that the four-year-old boy’s body was later found after officials from the National Fire Authority managed to put out the fire.
Initial information gathered by investigators regarding the fire indicates that the victim was playing with matches with other children.
Naisoro says while this will have to be confirmed by the National Fire Authority, Police are again pleading with parents and guardians to be vigilant and mindful of fire hazards and the obvious threats it has on one’s safety.
Meanwhile Chief Fire Officer Qionilau Moceitai says investigations are still ongoing.
