Fiji’s literacy status at 96% is a great achievement - Gibb
PM Voreqe Bainimarama with Honorable Nick Gibb, UK Minister of School Standards and Equalities

UK’s Minister of School Standards and Equalities Nick Gibb says that Fiji’s literacy status at 96% is a great achievement.

Minister Nick Gibb made this comment when discussing education in Fiji with Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama at the 52nd Session of the International Sugar Organisation in London.

Discussions at the 52nd Session of the International Sugar Organisation highlighted Fiji’s recent progress in the educational reform with the expanded scholarships and increased technology in the classroom.

Gibb explained that the UK government has implemented a phonics test for six-year-olds aimed at improving their reading and spoken English.

The UK has volunteered to do a model training of the program in the upcoming 20th Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers in Fiji.

The 20th conference of the Commonwealth Education Ministers will be held in Nadi next February.
