Fiji wins Plate, South Africa takes Cape Town 7s title

South Africa has successfully defended the South Africa 7s title after defeating Argentina 29-14 in the Cup final this morning.

The tournament hosts outclassed Argentina with their pace and power and the backing of the 55,000 plus people at Cape Town stadium.

Meanwhile the Vodafone Fiji 7s team is still leading the World Rugby Sevens Series points table after finishing fifth in the South Africa 7s.

Fiji earned 13 points from their win over USA in the Plate final.

Playmaker Vatemo Ravouvou scored two tries while the other tries were scored by Jasa Veremalua, Isake Katonibau and Emosi Mulevoro.

Fiji earlier lost to France by 17-14 in the Cup quarters last night.

They beat Australia 38-19 in the plate semifinal.

NZ lost to USA in the plate semi 28-14.

In other Cup quarters, South Africa beat Australia 25-5, Argentina defeated New Zealand 22-19 while Kenya beat USA 26-10.

In the Cup semis, Argentina beat Kenya 24-22 while South Africa beat France 21-12.

Looking at the other results, Samoa won the Shield after defeating Russia 40‑5 while Scotland beat England 19-0 to win the Bowl final.

France beat Kenya 28-26 in the third place playoff.

Fiji is in first place on the World Rugby 7s series table with 35 points.

Captain Osea Kolinisau says they bounced back after the Cup quarter final loss to win the Plate final.

South Africa is in second place with 35 points but Fiji has a better overall points difference.

USA and Argentina are in third place with 29 points.

England is next with 26 points.

France and NZ are in fifth place with 25 points.

The next tournament will be in Wellington on the 30th and 31st of January, 2016.

The Sydney 7s will be held on the 6th and 7th of February, 2016.
