Fiji signs direct funding agreement of $1.7 million with Australia for ICT upgrades at Fiji Immigration Department

The Fijian government and the Australian government have signed a direct funding agreement of 1.7 million for the advancement of the Fijian Immigration Department’s information, communication, and technological infrastructure.

This collaboration will introduce new technologies through E-passports, Smart Gates, Border Management System, with recognition also on Department's vision to transition to e-platform and digitization for easy accessibility, efficiency, and transparency at all levels.

The objectives of the agreement include digitization of all records within the Department and the establishment of a digital record-keeping system for all future processes.

The Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister, Yogesh Karan says the initiative supports the Fijian Government’s commitment to an inclusive, safe, secure, stable, and prosperous Fiji through comprehensively developing border Security and immigration service.

The Australian High Commissioner to Fiji, John Feakes says through the Department of Home Affairs in Fiji, Australia is working with Fijian border agencies to establish a deep and expanding cooperative relationship on border security matters.
