Fiji as a country has made a lot of inroads into its reproductive health practices and development which has been reflected in an increased offer of family planning options.
The Ministry of Health and Medical Services in conjunction with UN Population Fund has had a comprehensive exercise for all health workers on methods for family planning and counselling for women.
This training includes the practices for nurses being reviewed and modified to allow them to insert and remove jadelle in their facility and most health centres can provide up to four modern contraceptives services.
Jadelle is a contraceptive implant that is used to prevent pregnancy.
Modern contraceptives are available up to nursing station level which ensures universal access to women of child bearing age.
Minister for Health and Medical Services Rosy Akbar highlighted the that reproductive health services is an important component of all maternal health services and public health services such as maternal child health, family planning clinics and outreach services for the health ministry.
The Health Minister has also highlighted that the Ministry allocates funding of $200,000 each year for maternal and reproductive health capacity building programs for the staff.
