People have been urged to take precautions as Fiji is expected to experience the indirect effects of the tropical cyclone from Wednesday.
The Tropical Disturbance located near Solomon Islands is now upgraded to a Tropical Depression.
It is intensifying and has a high probability of becoming a tropical cyclone in the next 12 to 24 hours.
Acting Director of the Nadi Weather Office, Aminiasi Tuidraki said on its projected path, the weather system is expected to lie about 1,200 kilometres North West of Nadi at 8am tomorrow, and 1,100 kilometres North West of Nadi at 8am Wednesday.
The centre of the Tropical Depression was located near 8.2 degrees South and 169.1 degrees East or about 1,300 kilometres North West of Nadi earlier today.
It is currently slow moving, but expected to move southwards in the next 24 hours.
On the projected path, it is expected to pass to the southwest of Fiji.
Tuidraki said at this stage, the system is not expected to directly affect Fiji.
However, from Wednesday and into Friday, the associated active rain bands will bring heavy rain and strong winds.
Tuidraki said there is also a threat of flash flooding later this week and people should be prepared.
