Fiji TV apologises to Govt for unsanctioned announcement
Fiji Television Limited has apologised to the government for the unsanctioned announcement it made earlier this week regarding the company’s planned transition from analog to digital transmission.

The apology follows the concerns raised by Communications Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum on why Fiji TV announced its planned transition to digital broadcasting without first seeking clarification from the Department of Communications.

Sayed-Khaiyum stresses that it is imperative that this process be Government-driven to ensure that all broadcasters have equal and equitable access to a shared infrastructure that will give them the same network coverage and quality.

Sayed-Khaiyum said this will cut down the costs of building and maintaining infrastructure for all the TV stations.

The TV stations in this case are Fiji TV, FBC TV and Mai TV.

Fiji TV CEO, Tevita Gonelevu and board member Nouzab Fareed met with Sayed-Khaiyum and Director of Communication, Shivnesh Prasad yesterday.

Fareed said Fiji TV will now work with the Communications Ministry to ensure that the process laid out by the government is followed.

When asked on the issue of cost sharing by the three TV stations on infrastructure for the migration from analog to digital transmission at the same time, Fareed said discussions are yet to take place on that.
