The Fiji Red Cross Society assists 200,000 people every year through the communities they serve.

This was stated by the President of the Society Sala Lesuma who says they have 16 branches across Fiji with 800 volunteers.

Lesuma says the first branch was set up in Ba, and within 10 years they had established a few more branches and continued to recruit volunteers with their early programs focused on First Aid support, water safety training, and advocacy.

She says they are finalizing their contribution to the Disaster Law, and this year they are helping to enact their own Red Cross Law.

While speaking at the launch of the Society’s 50th year celebrations, President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere says the Red Cross is synonymous with hope, humanitarian relief, support, and assistance to the disadvantaged and vulnerable.

He adds the Fiji Red Cross Society through its auxiliary role to our nation in the humanitarian domain, reaches out to all Fiji citizens in times of emergency and disaster.
