The Fiji Airways Men's National 7s side have survived an early scare in their first pool match of the HSBC Perth 7s after securing a close 14-7 win over Samoa this evening.

Fiji drew first blood after speedster Vuiviawa Naduvalo scored a converted try in the 5th minute of the first half.

Samoa replied with a converted try to Vaovasa Su'a at the stroke of half time to lock the score at 7-all at the break.

It was a tight contest in the second spell as both teams threw everything they had left in their tanks against each other.

Nippy playmaker Terio Veilawa broke the deadlock in the 11th minute after scoring a converted try from a great piece of play, beating two defenders and racing towards the tryline.

Fiji will take on France at 11.31 tonight in their second pool match.

They will then take on New Zealand at 5.25pm tomorrow in their final pool match.

The Men's cup quarter finals will start at 10.10pm tomorrow, the cup semi finals will kick off at 5.10pm Sunday and the cup final will start at 9.53pm Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s will take on Spain at 8.47 tonight in their second match.
