As Fiji celebrates Diwali this year, the Fiji Labour Party calls on everyone, particularly parents, to dwell on the values and virtues embodied in the epic tale by Valmiki.

Fiji Labour Party Leader, Mahendra Chaudhry emphasizes that Ramayan shows a society that followed a high moral compass, the deep respect and love among the brothers of Lord Rama, adding their respect for their parents is worth emulating in this day and age.

He highlights that Ramayan mirrors the dignity of human values and relationships.

He further emphasizes that the Ramayan deals with the intricacies of human nature, of personal integrity, discipline, and adherence to principles despite all odds and challenges, something from which we can all learn.

Chaudhry also explains that Ramayan and Lord Rama’s trials and tribulations as he endures 14 years of exile, ending with the triumph of good over evil as he defeats the evil Ravana and returns to Ayodhya for a glorious future.

He explains that Lord Rama himself has always been known as the Maryada Purushottam, the ideal man and the embodiment of righteousness, adding he exemplified the highest virtues of dignity, integrity and dharma as a son, brother, husband and king.

Chaudhry says in Fiji, no matter how gloomy the circumstances may be and how unpromising the future, Diwali brings with it fresh hopes for a better and more promising year ahead.
