Father Barr grateful for PM’s intervention
Father Kevin Barr has confirmed to Fijivillage this afternoon that he has been informed of the Prime Minister's decision to reverse his work permit allowing him to remain in the country.

Barr said he has since left the Australian High Commission and is now back home.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama  reversed the decision regarding Australian national and Catholic priest Father Kevin Barr.

Following representations made to Commodore Bainimarama, he has reviewed and reversed the decision made by the Minister of Immigration, Joketani Cokanasiga to cancel the work permit for Father Barr.

Commodore Bainimarama said Father Barr is free to remain in the country until his work permit has expired which at that time will still be subject to assessment for renewal following the necessary protocols.

When asked about certain protocols about his work permit, Father Barr said he has to discuss it with the Immigration Department.

Father Barr said that he was disappointed when he received the news yesterday.

Father Barr was earlier declared a Prohibited Immigrant and told to leave by tomorrow.
