Farmers assisted with mechanization grant to tackle the issue of labour shortage

To address the labor shortages on sugarcane farms, the Ministry of Sugar Industry has handed over sugarcane planters and fertilizer applicators to five Tractor Service Providers in Ba, Tavua and Rakiraki.

While handing over the farm machinery, Sugar Minister Charan Jeath Singh says this initiative aims to enhance productivity in the sugar industry, addressing major challenges of labor shortages and high production costs.

Singh says they are prioritizing farm mechanization as a key part of their strategy to boost sugar productivity.

Meanwhile, President of Varavu Farmers’ Cooperative in Ba, Noa Kautoga says this will assist farmers to use modern techniques in making their harvesting work easier.
